Given the company’s recent upward growth trajectory and confirmed pipeline of commercial, industrial and residential projects, we are looking for a full-time Project Installation Electrician to join us on this exciting journey in 2024 and beyond, to contribute and add value to both the company and their own career development in the niche and massively expanding sustainability-focused engineering & projects space that we operate in.
Project Installation Electrician Roles & Responsibilities:
- Attend site visits to assess installation requirements, install data loggers, complete site assessment questionnaires, and site measurements for potential installation projects
- Be able to translate site visit information into electrical installation requirements on a project in alignment with project electrical engineer
- Responsible for executing electrical installation scope on projects including DB board installations, AC & DC protection, cabling, earthing & associated components, installing, rewiring & splitting of household & commercial DB boards, installation of cable runs, trunking, fault-finding, generator installations, inverter installation, battery installations
- Responsible for ensuring adherence to company QA/QC & SH&E policies relating to electrical works and that all SANS, grid code and NRS specifications are adhered to on project sites
- Responsible for electrical compliance and single-phase & 3-phase electrical Certificates of Compliance (CoCs) in relation to SANS 10142-1-1/2 and other local and national electrical standard as well as ZPE electrical engineering designs on projects
- Responsible for company electrical equipment, tools, materials & consumables issued to site team sub-contractors or installation team members
- Work well independently and in project teams, be able to be assertive yet astute in managing teams and have good interpersonal skills on-site as well as written communication skills with company management
- Responsible for day-to-day use and care of company tools, equipment taken out and checked back in to stores, and similar with company vehicles responsibility
- Responsible for executing operational & maintenance electrical tasks on completed projects if and when they arise e.g. fault finding, client call-outs, firmware updates, equipment warrantee claims, remote monitoring connectivity issues, etc
- Types of projects that will be involved in include:
- Greenfields projects – new sustainable engineering projects
- Brownfields projects – add-ons or upgrades to previous infrastructure projects taken on by the company
- Operational & Maintenance projects – routine monthly and ad-hoc corrective O&M projects where the company is contracted to execute maintenance projects with existing customers
Experience & Qualification Requirements
- Must have electrical qualification (N3 & trade tested), be certified as an Installation Electrician with Department of Labour (Wireman’s licence holder), driver’s licence and able to travel
- Must have experience interpreting technical drawings and SLDs.
- Renewable energy experience will be an advantage
- Must have good organisational skills, good English oral and communication skills, willingness to learn and follow company guidelines, & guidance of senior team members
- Previous renewable energy and/or electrical distribution work experience of 3-4 years will be advantageous
- Position will report in a matrix structure to Head of Commercial Projects (line manager) and to Senior Project Managers/Engineers on a project basis
General Candidate Requirements:
- Candidate will report to Company head office located at 2 Clamart Street, Richmond, Johannesburg but will be expected to work at project sites across South Africa and in neighbouring countries if and when required
- Must be able to work well independently as well as within company teams to execute projects successfully
- Must be driven to perform, willing to take on responsibility and able to make decisions independently
- Able to participate in structured and un-structured learning & training if and when they come up from time to time
- Pro-actively expand knowledge-base in areas of Zero Point Energy and personal interest
- Be involved in company initiatives to optimise company processes & systems and provide input when required
- Contribute and develop systems & processes in areas of experience and increase knowledge-base of the company
- Willing to learn and be able to pick up new skills and knowledge of industry quickly and effectively
- Able to provide contactable references for prior work experience validation, proof of residence, successful police clearance, valid qualifications and accreditations
- Initially, 6 to 12 month contract (depending on work experience) with option to extend to full-time role (performance dependent) with initial 3-month’s being a probation period
- Salary negotiable – industry related and dependent on experience
